Long Term Goals

The City of Irving, Texas is one of the most accessible pieces of land in Texas. The DART light rail system is due to double in length by 2014 for a total of 93 miles. Irving’s Transit-Oriented Development District runs along Irving’s portion of the 13-mile branch extending to the west and connecting to the University of Dallas, the Las Colinas Urban Center in North Irving and DFW International Airport.

In addition to the new light rail line, Irving enjoys immediate access to five major highways. Irving sits at the crossroads of State Highway 114, State Highway 183, loop 12, and just minutes from Interstate Highway 35-E. New Transit Oriented Developments will be less than 35 minutes from anywhere in the Metroplex.

Irving and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), and the Dallas Area Rapid Transit Authority (DART) have over $1.0 billion of fully funded transportation improvements scheduled for the area. $700 million of these improvements are to be completed before 2012.

TxDOT will begin rebuilding the Loop 12/Highway 114 interchange in fall of 2007, with completion scheduled for late 2010. This project will add High Occupancy Vehicles (HOV) lanes to both freeways, will construct flyovers connecting the north/south Loop 12 to the east/west 114, will increase frontage roads to three lanes in each direction, and will add “Texas U-Turn” lanes at each intersection.
